Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum, antifungal agent that is used for the treatment of dermal infections, is active against pathogenic dermatophytes Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentegro-phytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, Torulosis spp., Aspergillus spp., Cladosporium spp., Madurella spp.; dimorphous fungi Blastomyces dermatitidis, Coccidioides immitis, Histoplasma capsulatum.

More sensible to Clotrimazole is the yeast Pityrosporon orbiculare and the fungi Cryptococcus, Sporothrix. Clotrimazole inhibits biosynthesis of sterols, particularly ergosterol an essential component of the fungal cell membrane.

Clotrimazole are contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any of its components. It should not be taken in the 1st trimester of Pregnancy.

Clotrimazole is indicated in the treatment of epidermophytie, microsporia and dermal infections: tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis; it cure most vaginal yeast (candida) infections, Pityriasis versicolor, and candidosis of mouth.

Clotrimazole decrease effectiveness of antimycotic polyenic (Nystatin). Dexametazon decrease the effect of clotrimazole.

Clotrimazole can be applied topically into the affected and surrounding skin areas twice a day. Vaginal tablets are used once a day at bedtime for 7 days. Pregnant women with vaginal infections should use 5g Clotrimazole vaginal cream for 1-2 weeks. In Candida vaginitis or Trichomonas vaginitis-100mg Clotrimazole (cream or ovule) once a day for 6 days, 200mg once a day for 3 days or 500mg once a day.

Acute overdosage with topical application of Clotrimazole is unlikely and would not be expected to lead to a life-threatening situation.

Adverse reactions reported with the use of clotrimazole are as follows: alergical reactions, local mild irritation, perioral dermatitis, gastrointestinal disorders.

The Clotrimazole should not be used after the date printed on the back of the foil sachet. Long-term treatment of Clotrimazole should be avoided.
