Benzalkonium Chloride is the derivative of the quaternary ammonium with surfactant properties (cationic detergent). It interacts with lipoproteids and disturbs the permeability of cellular membranes.it is active against Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia spp., Trichomonas vaginalis, Staphylococcus aureus, less active against Gardnerella vaginalis, Candida albicans, Haemophilus ducreyi, Treponema pallidum and inactive against Mycoplasma spp.

Benzalkonium Chloride damages the membrane of spermatozoa, breaks their structure, and reduces their mobility and vitality. It causes the coagulation of cervical mucus, which becomes tight for spermatozoa. The product does not influence the normal vaginal microflora including Bacillus Doderleini and hormonal cycle. The tablets are used when stomatitis, gingivitis, pharyngitis, influenza prophylaxis. The vaginal suppositories, vaginal cream and vaginal tampons are the intravaginal contraception.

They are recommended as the local contraception for women in childbearing age in that cases when oral contraceptives and intrauterine devices are contra-indicated, in the puerperal period and during lactation, after abortion, in the premenstrual period, occasional contraception (if it is necessary), oral contraception (if a dose of the medicine is missed).

Hypersensibility to Benzalkonium, allergic reactions in past history, contact dermatitis, vaginitis, vaginal discharge, endometrium irritation.

Stomatitis, gingivitis, pharyngitis, influenza prophylaxis, local (intravaginal) contraception.

Benzalkonium is incompatible with soaps, other surfactants, citrates, iodides, nitrates, permanganates, salicylates, tartrates and silver salts.

1 tablet several times daily keep in the mouth till it dissolves. The egg-shaped vaginal suppositories (ovules) are inserted 5 minutes before coitus. The contraceptive effect lasts 4 hours. 1 vaginal tablet is inserted 10 minutes before sexual intercourse. The contraceptive effect lasts 3 hours.

The vaginal cream is introduced into the vagina in the lying position with the help of the applicator, before coitus. The contraceptive effect begins immediately and lasts 10 hours. The tampon is introduced into the vagina before coitus with the help of the long finger to the cervix of the uterus. The contraceptive effect begins immediately and lasts 24 hours.

There are few side effects in the indicated doses. It is possible local irritation, contact dermatitis, infections of urinary tract, candidiasis, and allergic vaginitis when you use Pharmatex for a long time.

The intravaginal products do not exclude risk of pregnancy. Use the soap Pharmatex or clear water during your hygienic procedures because a usual soap is contra-indicated, it innervates the active substances.
